Summer’s Not Over

We went to the beach over the weekend. It was just a day trip. That’s one of the nice things about living near Portland. We’re less than 90 minutes from the coast and the mountains. I love the beach, but we usually only go the beach about once a year because the coast is on the cool side (60′s degree in the summer), the water is freezing, and it’s very windy.

Luckily for us, on the day we went, the temperature was in the upper 70′s. It was still very windy and the water was still freezing, but that didn’t stop the kids from having fun in the water. If it were up to the kids, we would go the beach almost every day. That’s actually not a bad idea. Like I said, I love the beach. I wouldn’t mind living on the coast, but my wife would hate it. She would “freeze” and she would miss the big city shopping experience. Hmmm. That sounds like another reason for moving to the coast. I’m referring to the shopping part, not the freezing part. I don’t really want my wife to freeze.

On the way back home, my son told me to stop the car so he can poop. We’re halfway home and driving up a mountain. AND HE HAS TO POOP. I wasn’t sure what to do. Should I take my chances and make him wait until we got home? Or should I pull over and let him poop on the side of the road? And if I let him poop on the road, do I leave the poop for a bicyclist to run over it? Or do I take the stinky souvenir home with me? Boy, it’s not easy being a dad. We have to make hard decisions. Luckily, we came across a rest stop before I could make up my mind. Can you believe that? A rest stop in the middle of nowhere. Finally, I’m getting something back from my taxes.

Looks like a fun day. I haven’t been to a beach in ages! (Gosh, I sound like an old lady saying “in ages!”)

I’m glad you found the rest area, although I’d love to know what you would’ve chosen to do if you hadn’t.

What fun. I love the beach, too. Spiderboy was too busy digging in the sand to cover his eyes, I see.
Princess is getting big and so pretty.

Even though I would freeze AND miss the shpping, I would gladly live by the ocean. I like sweaters, no problem!

Looks like you had a lovely day. :D

  12. Sigh. I’m really missing the beach. I hear San Diego calling my name again…

Hey! Another photo of Spider Boy where his face isn’t covered up. Great job, Dad!

Cute pictures!!! I think every kid should get to play in the sand at least once every summer. Too bad we live in the middle of the continent…

  14. Great Pics!

That rest area was put there by a mom or dad that had the same problem you did I bet! Thank goodness for small favors.
