Eating Out with Shrek

Spiderboy goofing aroundOver the weekend, I took the little princess and Spiderboy to seek Shrek the Third. The little princess and I have not been to the movies in almost two years and this was the first time Spiderboy has been to a theater. If it was up to my son, he would rather see Spiderman 3 (me too), but that movie is too long for him (over two hours long) and too scary for the little princess (she got scared watching Little Miss Sunshine on DVD). Spiderboy and I almost fell asleep during the movie…not sure if we were both very tired (it was only 10:30 am) or if the movie was boring (except for the Incredibles and the first Shrek movie, all kids movies seem the same to me).

My kids with the Silver SurferMy favorite moment at the theater was taking pictures of my kids with the Silver Surfer. The worst experience was getting munchies. After getting robbed at the concession stand, I remembered why we have not been to the theater in almost two years. Speaking of food, I’ve been tagged by Desert Songbird for the Eating Out Meme. Here are the rules for the meme:

1. Link to the name of the person who tagged you.
2. Include the state and country in which you live.
3. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location (locally).
4. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I live near Portland/Beaverton (our area is not a part of any city) in the state of Oregon (USA). We rarely eat out, but these are some of the places I like to eat at (not in any particular order):

Jin Wah - dim sum baby!

Olive Garden - yummy Italian food, but I hate the long wait.

Izzy’s Pizza - they actually offer a lot more than just pizza. I love the buffet, but my wife puts me in my place by out-eating me.

Costco - decent food that is quick and cheap.

Flying Pie Pizzeria - they put so much toppings on their pizza, it’s a struggle to finish one slice.

Hmmm. Who have I not tagged before? How about:

Kay
Lisa
May
Phil
Sunrunner

I heard the same thing about Shrek the Third. Too long and kinda boring.
Me and John rarely go to the movies. If I take the kids, it’s to the free summer movies.
The pizza at Sam’s Club here is pretty good.

We don’t have a Sam’s Club here. We do have a Walmart 15-20 miles away. They tried to build one near here, but a bunch of people fought them off for over than two years.

We haven’t taken Julia to the movie theater, yet, but we have taken her to the drive-in. I’d love to see Shrek The Third. I loved the first two.

Your kids look cute in the pictures. It looks like they were having fun!

Do they still have drive-in’s? I don’t think they work too well in Oregon because it rains so often here.

Funny. When I didn’t have kids, I wanted to see movies like Shrek. But now that I have kids, I just want to see grown-up movies again.

I hated Shrek 3 as well, but we’ll take the kids out to see movies occasionally. My oldest (6) has seen Nemo, Polar Express, Cars, etc. I’m giving serious thought to taking him to see Transformers this summer. WOW!

I didn’t hate it. I just had a hard time staying awake for the last 30 minutes. Not sure why.

The whole Songbird family loves movies, but we’ve been so busy we haven’t been to see any of the biggies yet (Spidey 3, Shrek the Third, Pirates). I’m thinking we’ll be doing that over the next few weeks. This weekend was all about sleeping in and relaxing. Aaaahhhhh….

Costco is a great place to eat fast and cheap. We’ve done this on many, many occasions. The kids love the berry smoothies.

Oh, and dim sum? I hate you, I hate you, I hate you! I love dim sum - haven’t found a decent place around here…Sigh…

We are lucky. Portland didn’t have dim sum when I was growing up. You had to go to Seattle, SF, or Vancouver BC for dim sum back then. Now there are several good places for dim sum in Portland.

Ha! I nearly made my kids stand in front of the silver surfer or the Simpson family for a photo this weekend. We also took in Shrek 3 and we didn’t buy any snacks…I know exactly what you mean. We used to go almost every weekend but things have slowed a great deal - and I’m okay with that!

Hugs,
Holly

When my son saw the Silver Surfer, I couldn’t stop him from going to see it. I usually like to sneak treats, but the movie was unplanned.

Spiderman 3 was more like a lovey dovey love story than an action-hero movie. I dunno… maybe you can wait for the DVD?

Oh yeah, you got the free tickets. I’ll wait until the DVD to see Spidey, but I might take my kids to see Fantastic Four. I have to find out how long that movie is.

I’ve been debating on taking the kids to see Shrek in the theater. We just went to see Pirates 3. I’ll get my meme post up this morning! Thanks for tagging me! :-)

I’m bad, I sneak in snacks to the movies. We still buy sodas at the concession stand, and sometimes popcorn. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to even go to the movies, it’s so expensive. I think of it as a compromise- they still get some of my money.;)

mmmmmmmmmm. I LOVE eating at Costco. And Olive Garden, but you’re right the wait sucks. And it’s ALWAYS packed!!
