I am a Failure

my Halloween snowmanThat’s right, I am a failure. As you can see in the photo on the right, I do not have the ability to make a decent snowman. And making a decent snowman is something all dads are suppose to be able to do. It’s what defines a dad on a snow day. In my defense, I have to say that snow rarely sticks around here. The last time snow lasted more than a couple of hours was three years ago. So, it’s not like I get a lot of practice. To make matters worst, my wife’s snowgirl (below) is better than my Halloween snowman. Keep in mind that my snowman is at least five feet tall, while my wife’s snow munchkin is less than two feet tall. I should get points just for size.

my wife's snow munchkinI’ve learned a few things during these snow days. First, the school district administrators know less than I do about parenting. Otherwise, the district would have cancelled school in a timely manner instead right after the kids have arrived at school. It must have been a lot of fun contacting all the parents — especially the parents that have already left for work. And what do you say to the parents whose kids were stranded on a school bus because it got stuck in the snow? A real mess. In our case, our school bus didn’t even show up, which turned out to be a blessing.

I’ve also learned that if your SUV needs to be repaired in the winter, it’s a good idea to have it repaired right away. Otherwise, you will not have any transportation when you run out of milk and groceries. Then you will be forced to hike 20 miles up a mountain in a blizzard because you’re no longer allow to give beer to the kids as a milk substitute. And in the process of getting milk, you will be threatened by speeding 4×4’s, polar bears, and killer penguins. [Note to my kids in the future: Here's proof that I really did hiked 20 miles up a mountain to get milk for you. I didn't make up the story...because if it's written in a blog, it has to be true.]

You know what else I learned these last few days? Spiderboy thinks mommy is in charge. Listen to the video below and hear for yourself. Sorry for the low resolution; I didn’t notice my camera was set at low-res video until it was too late.

Did you hear it? I told Spiderboy he couldn’t go down the slide, so he asked mommy instead. I’m at the center of my son’s universe, so why would he think mommy is in charge? It goes back to the snowman. I’m a failure.

I would give your snowman extra points for originality. I like how you incorporated a jack o’lantern into it, thereby making it kind of multi-holiday themed. Very cutting edge. ;)

Your videos are too cute; I think it should be a daily feature!

But it looked like so much fun to go down the slide. Such a mean daddy.

And I like your snowman. More original than your wife’s. I mean how often do you see a Halloween snowman? Extra points for creativity.

I started to read your blog and like it. I think you should get points for size. My snowmen aren’t any better. They average about 4 ft. in the fear that if it tips over it will crush one of my kids.

Cheers.

LOL loved your snowpeople. Both of them.

I don’t know how you don’t just squish those kids in a giant hug every morning and not let go. Their voices, sooooo cute!

Silly rabbit, this is the first time you’ve noticed who’s really in charge? She was in charge before the kids were born, the second you said “I do.” :P

Snowman envy! And you can def. pull out of the hat “I walked the 20 miles for you.” when they are complaining about walking somewhere next time.

Too funny!

Keep smilin!

I agree with everyone else - you get style points for your snowman for originality. Oh, and size counts as well!

And tiggerprr is right — whatever gave you the idea that YOU were in charge? The woman is ALWAYS the center of the household, and definitely if she’s a mommy. Duh!

Awww, you’re not a failure… I give you points for persistence and creativity, and yes for the size of the snowman. though I do love your wife’s snow chick’s style, too! It’s a pretty close race in my opinion. :O)

As far as being in charge, don’t worry… my kids ask daddy after I have said no.

Thanks for visiting my WW!

I love the snowmen - both of them!

The video is too cute. Your children are adorable! I feel your pain, though. Julia asks Daddy when I say no. Daddy learned the hard way that if I say no, he better say no, too. He’s got the scar to remind him.

10 style points for your snowman, but I liked Mommy Forever’s hat.
Spiderboy is just learning how to get his way. Just ask mommy. Poor Daddy.

just be glad you get enough snow to do that. since we moved to ohio the kids have been accusing us of taking them to a place that doesn’t have “real winter”.

is that a real pumpkin? you get extra points for stability. if that were me it wouldn’t even have stayed on long enough to smile back at me.

my hubby’s great idea a few years back was to pack snow into boxes to make “blocks”. but then the boxes disintegrated even before we could pack the snow in solidly enough. so no snowmen, and no blocks. we had pieces of corrugated boxes mixed in the snow though, by the time the snow stopped.

OF COURSE mommies are in charge. nobody told you that before you had kids?

Don’t eat the yellow snow.
And of course your wife is in charge.
Your wife has always been in charge.

Oh, and thanks for visiting my blog. I’m sure you read lots of stuff online and I really appreciate you making time to stop by my blog and read about me complain. At least recently I’ve had some very good news to put up.
A “Woot woot” to you and your family.

Hey you can’t be good at everything… and it really is not that bad. As for spiderboy… well he was just exploring all avenues, to avoid calling it quits…

Wait until you get laid off/restructured and can’t find a job after twenty years of giving blood to your employer. Then you’ll understand what true pain is all about.
