Happy Birthday, Baby K!

Dear Baby K,

Toddler KI guess I can’t really call you a baby anymore because today is your birthday. You’re one today. I’m going to have to start calling you Toddler K until you show me more of your personality. Or maybe I should just call you Cutie Pie because you are one cute toddler.

It has been a whole year since you were born. In the last few months you have been mommy’s little angel. You prefer mommy and don’t want daddy when you are cranky. Thanks to your brother, who hoards all of daddy’s free time, you and I still have not bonded. But you are coming around. Sometimes when you see daddy, you start chasing after daddy. Daddy picks you up and takes you back to mommy. A few seconds later, you are chasing after daddy again. It’s a game to you and you smile and giggle when you chase after daddy. And you can walk really fast. When it comes to walking, you are an over-achiever. You have been walking for about two months now. Your older sister and brother didn’t start walking until after they turned one.

Now that you are one, you get to face the front in your car seat and see where you are going instead of where you have been. You also get to eat just about anything that we eat. Not sure if that’s actually a good thing. Tomorrow, you get to have your very own birthday party. You don’t have any friends yet so we invited some of our friends. You will have no idea why there are so many people at our house or why people keep coming up to you to wish you a happy birthday. And when its time to open presents, your brother and sister will play with your toys and you will only get to keep the clothes. Not fair, but that’s life.

Toddler KHere’s a quick recap of your life. You were born on August 25, 2005 in Portland, Oregon. We tried you out for a couple of days at the hospital and decided to keep you. When we brought you home, you slept more during the day than during the night. You eventually figured it out and now sleep more at night than the during the day. You still need two naps a day, but lately you have been getting by with just one nap.

You never really learned how to crawl. Instead you walk on your hands and feet like an animal (your knees don’t touch the ground). For a while there, you even walked backward more than you walked forward. When you were about ten months old, you started walking for real. You like to pick up things from one part of the house and move them to another part of the house. And when you have something hard in your hand, you like to hit people with it. You seem to like daddy’s super hero toys. Whenever you see Spiderboy playing with them, you take them and make your older brother cry. You love playing with toys and sticking everything in your mouth. It looks like your favorite room is actually Spiderboy’s room. You just love playing in there.

Toddler KDuring your first year, you experienced your first Halloween (sorry no costume), your first Thanksgiving (no turkey for you), and your first Christmas (you got more clothes). You have been to the zoo (train ride), the beach (ate plenty of sand), the amusement park, and Enchanted Forest (down the big slide with daddy). You have been to the park many times, on walks for many miles, attended many birthday parties, and kissed many times by mommy and daddy.

Well, that’s pretty much it. I think you had a pretty good life so far. Happy birthday, Toddler K.

Love,
Daddy Forever
