Don’t Leave Me with the Kids Again
Boy, did I have a lot of fun last week. First my wife got sick on Wednesday, which meant I had to take care of the kids. Then my mother-in-law was hospitalized on Thursday so my wife had to leave town for a couple of days. My wife and her mother are fine now, but I’m not sure I am. Here’s how Thursday night went:
I went to bed around 12:30 am. Baby K wakes up around 1:30 am and cries her little head off for the next 45 minutes. I tried holding her, cuddling her, singing to her. Didn’t work. She wants mommy and I ain’t mommy. I tried turning on the lights and feeding her formula. Didn’t work. She wants mommy’s milk. I tried putting her on the carpet and ignoring her. That didn’t work either. Baby did not want daddy. She wants mommy. Finally, Baby K falls back to sleep around 2:15 am.
Of course, baby was crying so loud that she woke up Spiderboy who was a sleep in another room until he crawled into bed with me. I took Spiderboy back to his room and of course he can’t get back to sleep. His eyes are wide open in the dark. He’s kicking the wall and rolling from one side of the bed to the other side. It took another 45 minutes to get him back to sleep.
Its was 3 am before I finally made it back to my bed. Then in comes Princess M. She crawls into bed and begins wimpering, “I want mommy. I miss mommy. I want mommy.” Luckily, Princess M falls back to sleep within 5-10 minutes.
There’s more. Baby K wakes up again around 4 am. She cries for a little bit, but this time she stops crying when I picked her up. I took her downstairs and she actually takes the formula this time. She finishes her milk and smiles at me. Of course, she’s wide awake now so I take her to the playroom where she plays until she gets hungry again. I give her some more formula and she falls back to sleep.
I tuck her back in around 5 am and enjoy some sleep until Baby K wakes up again. It’s 6:30 now and time to get up and begin a new day. Well, that’s how my night went. I can’t wait to do this again. How do mommies put up with this every night?
